Artist Donna O'Neal holding a framed yarn painting of a stylized female face with bold red lips, yellow eye shadow, blue eye lashes and green organic shapes covering her cheeks; all contrasting beautifully against her medium brown skin. At her shoulders sits a mound of luscious green hills and yellow flowers. Behind her, a black and white mud cloth patterned background.

"I create portraits of black women in yarn to remind the world of our softness." - Donna o'neal, artist

Inspired by the Huichol yarn paintings of Mexico, Donna uses fabric glue to adhere individual strands of yarn to canvas; creating bold, colorful, and awe inspiring portraits. In her growing body of work, Donna gracefully explores themes of motherhood, spirituality, perspective and joy in the context of Black feminine expression. Donna's intentional use of yarn serves as a reminder of the beauty, warmth, and softness of her subjects.
